The Global Reporting Initiative’s (GRI) vision is that disclosure on economic, environmental, and social performance become as commonplace and comparable as financial reporting, and as important to organizational success. GRI’s mission is to create conditions for the transparent and reliable exchange of sustainability information through the development and continuous improvement of the GRI Sustainability Reporting Framework.
Benefits of GRI Reporting
Sustainability reports based on the GRI framework can be used to benchmark organizational performance with respect to laws, norms, codes, performance standards and voluntary initiatives; demonstrate organizational commitment to sustainable development; and compare organizational performance over time. GRI promotes and develops this standardized approach to reporting to stimulate demand for sustainability information – which will benefit reporting organizations and those who use report information alike.
GRI framework
This framework sets out the principles and indicators that organizations can use to measure and report their economic, environmental, and social performance. The cornerstone of the framework is the Sustainability Reporting Guidelines. Other components of the framework include Sector Supplements (unique indicators for industry sectors) and National Annexes (unique country-level information).

We have extensive experience with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and have helped organizations with applications and filings as per the G3 online Reporting Frameworkguidelines. However, we don’t report to GRI on behalf of organizations (not sure if that was your question over the phone). Filing of GRI reporting needs to be done by organizations themselves. We help them with the process of understanding the sustainability reporting frameworks and continuous improvement and application of best practices linked to the four key drivers of successful reporting for GRI as per G3- Materiality, Stakeholder Inclusiveness, Sustainability Context and Completeness.
Development of the reporting framework
The Reporting Framework provides guidance on how organizations can disclose their sustainability performance. The Guidelines (“G3”) are the foundation of the Framework. The Framework is applicable to organizations of any size, constituency or location, and has been used already by many hundreds of organizations around the world, as the basis of their sustainability reporting. Information-seekers can more accurately interpret disclosed information if it is communicated through the GRI’s credible, comparable framework.
Preparation of the GRI application
The Reporting Framework contains the core product of the Sustainability Reporting Guidelines(“the Guidelines”), as well as Protocols and Sector Supplements. The Sustainability Reporting Framework – of which the Sustainability Reporting Guidelines are the cornerstone – provides guidance for organizations to disclose their sustainability performance. It is applicable to organizations of any size or type, and from any sector or geographic region, and has been used by thousands of organizations worldwide as the basis for their sustainability reporting.
